Many web design projects are not designed with DDA 2005 compliance in mind. Good web design companies try to adhere to W3C standards which adheres to DDA.  If a web design company follows W3C standards they are likely to create search engine friendly web design providing a sound base for a SEO campaign. We feel that it is only a matter of time before litigation takes place by someone is disadvantaged by poor accessibility or usability. Most web design now use cascading stylesheets (CCS) which are very accessible. For many businesses it comes down to deciding what proportion of the target market they will lose if web design is inaccessible and then looking at the risk/reward.

Search engine friendly web design is important to any web design project. Even if you don’t need to be listed in search engines many of the aspects that make a web design project search engine friendly also make a website accessible. So why does web design need to be accessible? Web design must, theory at least, adhere to the DDA 2005. The disabled and elderly should not be disadvantaged by your web design. I hven’t heard of a case of litigation in the UK yet but I’m sure that this will come about in the future. At the very least government and acadamic web design should adhere even if they are not required to rank well in search engines.
