Search engine friendly web design is important to any web design project. Even if you don’t need to be listed in search engines many of the aspects that make a web design project search engine friendly also make a website accessible. So why does web design need to be accessible? Web design must, theory at least, adhere to the DDA 2005. The disabled and elderly should not be disadvantaged by your web design. I hven’t heard of a case of litigation in the UK yet but I’m sure that this will come about in the future. At the very least government and acadamic web design should adhere even if they are not required to rank well in search engines.
